An investment

Imagine if your building- or design project was constituted by objects that were able to think for themselves and calculate their positions compared to other objects. Well, BIM or building information modeling does just that. By streamlining projects with the implementation of BIM, your company will gain multiple benefits. The project will include fewer flaws, it can be manufactured more quickly and at a lower cost and the construction becomes closer related to the entrepreneur’s initial desire. In other words, investing in the proper work method pays off from the very first project.

What is BIM?

In a world where technology is ever-evolving, it's impossible to be aware of all the possibilities that technology gives us. But this one is worth looking into...
For instance, did you know that digitally created objects are sometimes considered intelligent or unintelligent? Objects that are considered intelligent are also called BIM which stands for Building Information Modeling, which is a work method often used within the industry of construction and architecture.
BIM ensures that when you insert objects into software, they arrange themselves within the context they are placed in. For instance, if your BIM object is a window and you insert that into a wall, the window knows that it needs to create a hole in the wall in order for it to fit. Likewise, the wall leaves room for the window and in the final budget, BIM will have calculated that less paint is needed for this wall due to the space that is taken up by the window.
In time, this tool enables you to save time and resources while achieving a flawless end-project that meets or exceeds your expectations.

Why do you need BIM objects?

While it is completely up to you whether you prefer to employ intelligent or unintelligent objects, BIM objects bring different benefits for your current – as well as future projects.
BIM calculates what materials are used when implementing intelligent objects in your software which amounts to a huge benefit for your company. Another essential benefit is that companies are able to recycle BIM models due to the intelligence of BIM that enables the models to reuse any defined parameters for potential new projects.

Skilled and experienced partner

We offer a strong set of in-house competencies and experience, ensuring that your company will enter this digital enhancement of BIM with the greatest support team possible.
We have worked with companies in various lines of business. Thus, we have obtained a broad spectrum of knowledge and have become experts in these areas of the industry, ensuring that we provide the needed information to enhance your BIM experience and outcome.

Work smart

This is best done when outsourcing some of the time-consuming processes. With BIM, you can streamline projects and avoid spending unnecessary time compiling designs or projects from scratch. In time, this tool enables you to save time and resources while achieving a flawless end-project.
With BIM, your projects will not only be compiled in the most efficient way possible, but it will also relieve you of any complications when it comes to maintenance and renewal. BIM objects are embedded with information, which makes it easy to assess details on the elements that are to be changed or renewed.

How much does it cost?

The price highly depends on the scope of the individual project. Prior to any project, a dialogue between the contact person and the client will clarify what the scope of the project is. The scope of the project is defined based on factors such as the complexity of the project, the desired amount of BIM objects, the number of parameters for the respective high-quality objects, and the time estimation for the entire project. All of these factors will affect the final price.

In general, the individual BIM objects are created based on different levels of complexity:

  • The most common objects are directly exportable (e.g. objects with no parameters).
  • The second-most common objects only vary on parameters such as height or width (e.g. a type of door).
  • The most complex objects differ on various parameters and often implicate attached objects to them.

Thus, it is difficult to define a specific price estimate before knowing what the entire scope of the project is and what complexity of the objects is desired.

BIM implementation process

When implementing BIM objects, you have to be aware that there are some potential pitfalls due to the complexity and size of the files.
However, to avoid any errors, make sure you choose a company that specializes in the area of BIM. The advisor should offer consultation and guidance that will ensure that your BIM implementation runs as smoothly as possible. Our BIM specialists here at Cadesign form offer you quality-minded consultation to guarantee you the best possible service when moving your way into the world of BIM.
Further possibilities

Want more?

Once you’ve started the digital journey, lots of possibilities are just around the corner. As a full-service visual communication agency, we help our customers boost their digitalization in many different ways.
This means that we always offer to assist you in the further development of your BIM project. If your company launches a new collection of furniture or you need to implement an additional element in your building project, we will be happy to provide you with the BIM objects and the service that comes with that.
When already in a partnership, future projects will be more simple since we already have the information on the previously designed BIM object, and will only need the measurement and potential details for the new ones.
Furthermore, if we have already worked with you on other occasions, the previously obtained knowledge we have of your company will make the cooperation even more convenient.

What are the benefits of employing BIM? A general model is unintelligent and therefore unchangeable. In contrast, if the model is built from scratch, information becomes nested into the object e.g. a table is always attached to the floor (because this piece of information is nested into the object, making it an intelligent BIM object). This allows for more flexibility and precise calculations.
How large does the project have to be before BIM is required? In general, the project scope should be of a certain size before it makes sense to apply BIM as your chosen modeling technology. However, since 2007, BIM has been a legal requirement for any governmental building activities in Denmark. It is primarily applicable to projects exceeding 5 million DKK.
When can I employ unintelligent objects? You can employ unintelligent objects within a project if you need the size of the BIM-file to be smaller. This can be done by adding objects with no parameters (unintelligent objects), that still need to be included into the building project but do not need to be intelligent due to an unchangeable means of parameters e.g. a painting or a sofa which rarely differs in parameters due to its standardized measures of height and depth.
Where are the BIM objects available from?

BIM files are available on the official BIM database: where clients upload BIM files themselves.

Furthermore, BIM files are accessible from the respective company's website where users are able to download the BIM objects directly.

How much does it cost to implement BIM?  It’s hard to give an exact price estimate before knowing the project scope. However, an estimate is given based on a dialogue between the client and the sales manager where the specifics of the project are clarified. It strongly depends on the size and complexity of the project.
Who should pay for the BIM models? The manufacturer of the modeled objects or the owner of the building usually fund the BIM project. They all own the BIM models; however, they make the files available to users (e.g. entrepreneurs) for free to better the chances of their products getting used in a potential project.
What type of software can I use for BIM? You can employ various types of software when searching to implement your BIM objects. However, the most common types of software and the ones that our specialists support are Autodesk Revit, which is primarily used within the industry of building construction, and ArchiCAD, which is primarily used within the industry of design and architecture.
What is IFC?
International foundation Classes (IFC) is a way of preserving digital building descriptions that allows for a comprehensible exchange of information among several BIM objects.
An IFC file should be perceived as a fixed PDF file intended for cost estimations, replication, clash detections etc. However, the file should not be modified in terms of editing. In other words, IFC should be perceived as a means of archive or reference in relation to BIM model content.
Thus, IFC enables operators to show IFC files directly in a browser with no use of traditional software and save the file in the active viewer's own file format. This process is also called OpenBim which essentially entails that unrestricted cooperations across disciplines and software platforms are feasible.
What is ICT?
ICT is an abbreviation of Information- and communications technology. ICT emphasizes the technology that is required for operators to get access to, edit, transfer, and save information in digital objects or formats.
Engineers and architects have people who are ICT-accountable employed to ensure that any construction, design, or planning activity meets the requirements from the ICT proclamation without exception.
The term is most often used within the public sector both domestically and foreign.
